How to Play Guitar at an Irish Session-Tom Landa- This workshop is for those who know how to play guitar but are new to Irish sessions, but anyone is welcome to attend. An Irish session is a gathering of musicians and singers who play and sing Celtic and other music together. Learn different rhythmic techniques for jigs (double jigs, slip jigs and slides), reels, hornpipes, polkas and/or waltzes, typical progressions of chords for the most commonly used keys (e.g. G Major), session etiquette and DADGAD tuning. History & Rules of Hurling-Stephen Power- Stephen Power is from Ireland and lives in Portland, Oregon. Steve will cover the history of Hurling (the National Sport of Ireland and the oldest and fastest team sport on Earth) and the rules of Hurling. Not just a presentation but demonstrating some hurling actions as well.

Basket Weaving ($10 supply fee)-Sheila Tasker-
 Must be 16 or older. Taught for beginners, but all levels welcome. Willow Tension Trays: In this workshop you will learn to weave this rustic willow tray. The simple, strong design is fun and easy to make, and it looks lovely with scones or a soda bread on it. $10 supply fee which includes all the materials and hand outs. Please bring an Old towel, basket scissors or pruners. Sheila will have some to share.

His Master's Degree is from the University of Limerick, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. He has nine entries in the upcoming Encyclopaedia of Music in Ireland as well as several articles published in Iris na bPiobairi. Singing Irish Songs While Staying Healthy Workshop-Chris Boveroux- Chris Boveroux, a graduate student in choral conducting at the University of Oregon, will use Irish music to explore some common vocal production problems. He will help participants sing Irish songs while keeping their voice in better health. We will focus on basic technical aspects of the voice and the singing mechanism. Be ready to sing! Genealogy Workshop - Tracing Your Ancestors Back to Ireland-Dawn Carlisle- Dawn Carlile has been teaching Genealogy workshop for the Oregon Genealogical Society for many years. Dawn will show you many resources for tracing your ancestors back to Ireland. It is recommended that those who attend this workshop are aware of their ancestor's names, but everyone is welcome to attend. Introduction to Playing Irish Music on Fiddle - 25 cent supply fee-Justin Lader- This workshop fiddlers/violists new to Traditional Irish Music. Learn the fundamentals of Irish fiddle ornamentation. Emphasis will be on learning ornaments such as grace notes, rolls, and different bowings. We will focus on two jigs in G-Major: The Kesh Jig, and Chi Mi Na Morbheannna (Mist Covered Mountain). Along with the faster jigs, we will also play and discuss ornamentation for a waltz in G-Major, Tabhair Dom Do Lamb (Give Me Your Hand). Expect to come away with insight and a basic understanding of how to construct, place ornaments, and change bowings in jigs and waltzes. Students are encouraged to familiarize and memorize the basic tunes before coming to the workshop, but it is not necessary. Printed music will be available. Bring your fiddle/violin. Composing Celtic Inspired Tunes (1 quarter supply fee)-David Helfand- In this workshop, participants will be introduced to what stylistically and culturally makes a Celtic tune and how to draw upon the traditions to create original pieces. The difference between jigs, slip jigs, reels, hornpipes and aires will be discussed and participants will have the opportunity to hear pieces played in these styles and to experience playing with these various rhythms and melodies, and also how to apply them to original tunes. Sample pieces played together in the class will be simplified so all participants can participate and made playable for musicians who play by ear. Creating and gaining inspiration through travel will be discussed along with the opportunity for participants to create melodies or melodic phrases. The class will have the opportunity to co-create together. Participants of all skill levels and instruments of choice are welcome. For ages 10 and up but all are welcome. A handout will be provided for 1 quarter. |

Scottish-Irish Country Dance Demos & Workshop-Eugene Scottish Country Dancers- These are Scottish country dances but performed to such popular Irish tunes such as Smash the Windows, Rakes of Mallow, Muirsheen Durkin and
Irish Rover. The dance entitled Roaring Jelly (a.k.a. Smash the Windows) will be taught by Robert, an experienced country dance teacher who now resides near Eugene. Ample participation will be most welcome; be prepared for an exhilarating group dance experience.

Geraldine as been involved in Irish dance and music for over 40 years and is certified by An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha (The Irish Dance Commission) in Dublin, Ireland, since 1995. She's a member of the Irish Dance Teachers Association of North America and the Western US Region of Irish Step Dance Teachers where she currently serves on the board of directors as the Western US Regional Secretary.
